Julie’s Story

Name: Julie Watson

Weight before: 11st 5 lbs

Weight after: 10st - Lost 8 inches from her waist and dropped two dress sizes

Total lost: 19 lbs over 6 weeks – started diet on 1st November 2006

What was the trigger to lose weight?

When she got married 5 years ago, she was 9 stone 7lbs so she’d put on around 2 stone. Julie realised this most dramatically when she tried on her wedding dress recently and couldn’t do it up. Julie says her problem is trying to match her husband’s portion sizes when they eat, and she also has a tendency to skip breakfast and eat crisps mid-morning. Julie’s aim was to look good for her work’s James Bond themed Christmas party in December and not feel self-conscious. She had already bought a slinky dress but found it too tight.

What other diets were tried?

Julie had tried cutting down on portions sizes and high fat foods in the past in an attempt to be healthy, but didn’t see any effect. Julie has always exercised regularly. She does 2 Body Pump classes a week, 1 Spinning class, 2 Body Attack and does a 4.5 mile walk every Sunday. Despite all of this effort - she didn’t seem to be losing any weight.

Why the Holford Low GL diet?

The diet was suitable for Julie as she exercises frequently and leads a very active lifestyle. She didn’t want to feel hungry and dizzy after her work outs, so was keen to try a diet that kept her feeling full and energetic. Despite being a fussy eater, Julie also found that there were lots of foods that she could continue to eat and was also trying lots of foods that she had never eaten before. 

Would you recommend it to others?

Julie has recommended the diet to her friends and family, who are impressed by her drastic transformation. She recommends anyone trying the diet to keep focused, plan ahead to avoid temptation and remember that it’s a healthy way of eating that should be adopted for long term health.

The result

Julie has much more energy, doesn’t feel tired and feels great about herself after losing 19lbs in six weeks!  Her work’s James Bond themed Christmas party was her chance to show off her dramatic transformation and fit into the slinky dress, which wowed everyone. Julie feels that she now holds herself more confidently and finds great satisfaction in buying smaller clothes when she goes shopping.
